“I get asked a lot what I’m going to do for a career. I didn’t take it seriously before, but now it’s hitting me. The whole summer I thought, ‘I need to start planning for my future career.’ I had worked with two former interns, Andi and Mykenzie, and they all said great things about Rêve Academy. So I decided I was gonna come in and show my skillset and put it where it needs to be.
This summer, I’ve grown the most in my project management skills. Me coming here has helped me understand what I want to do in the future. I know I want to be around people cause that’s my strength. Rêve gave me that opportunity.”

“Working with different interns who have different learning curves means that I had to learn how to manage them respectfully, so we get the work done and people don’t feel like they’re behind. I also found out how to get help if I needed it. Being in this team leader role, I didn’t have a choice!
I’m talkative, but I’ve had to step back and let others do the talking. At first it was quiet and nobody wanted to engage, but when we found common interests, that increased comfort and hence collaboration.
What I bring to the team dynamic is being willing to try anything. I came here with an open mind and it really exceeded my expectations of what it could be. Before, I always second guessed my work. Now I’ve become way more confident, both in my client work for 3M and in my Revival project. I realized that I can do this, and people will see my passion and confidence.”

“The challenging part was knowing my weaknesses. I have all these strengths but how can I improve my weaknesses? One big one was finding a way to put in work when work was winding down. Making sure that my team had plenty to do, even at the end of the day, was important.
This internship is a way for bigger companies to notice us. It shows them that these young adults are really rocking it. It gives us that voice for them to see us.”
Takia gained both technical and professional skills in her internship—and she didn’t have to pay a cent. In fact, we paid her a fair wage for her work each week, while she learned:
