“I was pretty quiet at the beginning of my internship. I still am, but when I’m in presentation mode I know how to open up my voice and enunciate my words to make sure everybody understands. During the summer, I found myself opening up more and more, and Revival was the peak of that. I never expected myself to be that outgoing in that situation, but it was really fun!
With this summer and the way my team was arranged, I worked best in a group. And I never thought that about myself before. Usually in a group setting, I’m the default leader and have to do all the work. Having a group that contributed and gave me amazing feedback…I loved that. If your career plan involves working with other people, this internship is a great way to prepare.”

“I think I’ve grown most in agility, because I tend to focus on one task and I don’t like really deviating from that. In this internship, you had to do a lot of things each day, so I would have to change direction. That became easier with time. Before, I was annoyed when people wanted to do something else. But once I understood why people wanted to move in a different direction, and we were all communicating with each other, it was easier to make the change.”
Zoha with her project team for the summer.
“My team was working with Strike Theater here in Minneapolis, doing graphic design and branding for them. My role was to be one of the designers. I think what I brought to the team was…being the one who kept it simple. My team is full of big thinkers. They are very talented people and they wanted to do a lot. So I helped them simplify their designs to make the end product look cleaner.
I had never designed posters before and I really enjoyed it. It was fun figuring out what each tool does in the Adobe programs. I never thought I could be a graphic designer, but this internship made me think maybe it was possible. It helped me think more about design, how I present myself, and how people perceive the world around them.”
Zoha gained both technical and professional skills in her internship—and she didn’t have to pay a cent. In fact, we paid her a fair wage for her work each week, while she learned:
